　　1)动词不定式短语、动名词和从句作主语时，谓语用单数。

　　例如：To say something is one thing, to do is another.

　　说是一回事， 做又是另一回事。

　　Reading is a good habit.

　　阅读是个好习惯。

　　Why he has not attended the meeting is still a secret.

　　他为什么没有来参加会议依然是个秘密。

　　2)a number of后面加复数名词或代词，其动词用复数形式;

　　但the number of后面加复数名词或代词时，其谓语用单数。

　　例如：A number of students were absent today.

　　今天有些学生没来上课。

　　The number of students is getting less and less in this school.

　　这个学校学生的数量越来越少。
