1、brake /breɪk/
brake作名词就是“刹车，车闸”，也可作不及物动词，意为“刹车”。
The brakes failed and the car crashed into a tree.
刹车坏了，车撞到一棵树上。
I braked hard but couldn’ t avoid hitting the car in front.
我猛刹车，但还是撞上了前面的车。
I slammed on the brake, but it was too late.
我赶忙踩刹车，可已经来不及了。
2、branch /brɑːntʃ/
branch作名词，意为“分支”，例如树枝、河流道路分支、分店、学科分支等，branch也可以指“政府的某个部门”，相当于department。
The fruit on the lower branches was protected from the sun.
下边树枝上的果子见不到阳光。
The bank has branches all over the country.
这家银行在全国各地都有分行。
This branch of the river eventually empties into the Atlantic.
大河的这条支流最终注入大西洋。
In the US, the president is part of the executive branch of the government在美国，总统是政府行政分支的一部分。
3、brand /brænd/
brand作名词，意为“品牌，牌子”，也可用在搭配a brand of sth，意为“种类，类型”。
You pay less for the supermarket's own brand.
超市自有品牌的东西要便宜些。
He has his own special brand of humour.
他有他自己独特的幽默。
We were not used to his brand of rudeness.
我们不习惯他那种特有的粗鲁态度。
4、brandy /ˈbrændi/
brandy是名词，意为“白兰地酒”，用葡萄酒或发酵果汁酿成的烈性酒。
After a couple of brandies Michael started telling me his life story.
喝了两杯白兰地后，迈克尔开始向我讲述他的生平。
5、brass /brɑːs/
brass是名词，意为“黄铜，黄铜制品”，brass也可以指管弦乐队的“铜管乐器”。
The instrument is beautifully made in brass.
这个仪器是用黄铜制成的，非常漂亮。
The brass and percussion were consistently too loud.
铜管乐器和打击乐器始终太响。
