1、 agitate /ˈædʒɪteɪt/

agitate是动词，作及物动词用agitate sb，意为“使某人焦虑，躁动不安”，作不及物动词用agitate for/against，意为“煽动，鼓动”。

The thought of questioning Toby agitated him extremely. 审问托比的想法让他极度不安。

The women who worked in these mills had begun to agitate forbetter conditions. 在这些工厂里做工的妇女们开始抗议要求改善工作条件。

As a young man, he had agitated against the Vietnam war. 他年轻时曾鼓动反对越南战争。

2、agony /ˈæɡəni/

agony是名词，意为“极度痛苦，极大的创伤”。

He endured agonies of loneliness and misery. 他忍受着寂寞和贫穷的折磨。
